What is Longevity Vancouver?

Longevity Vancouver is a free community for people who want more healthy years, and the city hands it a head start. The Stanley Park seawall gives you a flat ten kilometre loop at sea level, the Grouse Grind and the trails on Cypress and Mount Seymour are one bridge away on the North Shore, and swimmers are in the water off Kitsilano Beach in months when nobody would call it warm. The New Year's Day plunge at English Bay has been a civic habit here for over a century. Learning to keep moving through eight months of rain is the local skill worth copying.

Our events are free: meetups where the conversation does the work, expert talks with researchers and clinicians, and workshops with something practical in them. Recurring subjects are biological age and what each test can honestly claim, bloodwork, sleep, nutrition, strength training and VO2max (how much oxygen your body can use when you are pushing). Vitamin D and light through a dark Pacific Northwest winter comes up every year without fail. Community challenges run between events, where a group holds one habit for a few weeks and then compares what changed.

We are a community, not a longevity clinic, not a private health club and not a care provider. Membership is free, nothing is sold here, and nobody on our side assesses, prescribes or treats. Vancouver has a busy private market for this, almost all of it outside MSP and paid from your own pocket: longevity and preventive clinics downtown, around False Creek and in North Vancouver selling day long assessments with extended blood panels, DEXA and imaging, plus IV lounges and recovery studios with sauna and cold plunge. Members book some of it and report back without a filter, which is more useful than any price sheet. Our community Spots map collects labs, gyms and studios around the region as a starting point, and it carries no medical endorsement from us.

The room usually mixes researchers and students from UBC and SFU with clinicians, people from the tech sector, trail runners, and newcomers to Canada who are still working out how the health system fits together. The chapter treats Metro Vancouver as its area, so Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver and Surrey all count. To take part, create a free account, join the Vancouver WhatsApp group or come to the next event. Nobody screens you first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Longevity Vancouver?+
Longevity Vancouver is the free Vancouver chapter of the Longevity Cities network, open to anyone in Metro Vancouver who cares about healthspan, prevention and the research behind them. We meet for talks, workshops and ordinary evenings where the questions afterwards matter as much as the presentation. Members range from clinicians and UBC researchers to people who bought a wearable in January and now have opinions about their sleep data. Nothing is charged and nobody is screened. Dates go out through the events feed and the Vancouver WhatsApp group.
Is Longevity Vancouver a longevity club or a health club?+
Club here means the people, not a facility with a front desk and an annual fee. Vancouver has no shortage of the other kind, from racquet and fitness clubs to wellness centres bundling recovery services into a membership. We own no space, publish no rates and take no payment at all. Many members belong to a gym or a running crew as well, and that combination works fine. The only regular commitment is deciding whether a given evening is worth leaving the house for.
Is there a longevity clinic or longevity centre in Vancouver?+
Yes, several, and Longevity Vancouver is not one of them. Private clinics downtown, near False Creek and across on the North Shore sell physician led longevity programmes built around extended bloodwork, DEXA scans, imaging and a follow up plan, generally outside MSP and paid privately. We have no rooms, no waiting list and no financial link to any provider. Where the community helps is the bit that never appears in the brochure: members who paid for a programme will tell you what it actually changed.
Where can I find a longevity doctor or a private health assessment in Vancouver?+
We refer nobody, because this community has no medical staff of its own. In British Columbia you have three broad routes: your family doctor or a walk in clinic inside MSP, private preventive and longevity practices that charge directly, and testing companies selling panels or scans to consumers. Waiting times and out of pocket costs differ enormously between them, which is why members compare real experiences at meetups instead of trusting a website. The Spots map lists places members have used, with no medical vetting from us.
Is Longevity Vancouver the same as the other longevity and biohacking meetup groups in the city?+
No. Vancouver already has several groups working on ageing and healthspan, some of them running for years, and we are affiliated with none of them. Longevity Vancouver is the local chapter of the Longevity Cities network, free to attend, with an events feed, bilingual guides and a Spots map behind it. Overlap in membership is common and entirely welcome, since people go where the topic interests them. If you found us while looking for a Vancouver longevity meetup, this is the open, no cost version.
What longevity events, meetups and biohacking sessions happen in Vancouver?+
Three formats carry the Vancouver calendar: free meetups built around discussion, expert talks with a researcher or clinician, and workshops where you work through a method yourself. Community challenges fill the gaps, one shared habit at a time. Subjects move through biological age, bloodwork, sleep, training, nutrition and whichever biohacking device is being talked about that season, and claims get checked against the evidence in the room. Dates appear on this page, in the events feed and in the Vancouver WhatsApp group.
Is Longevity Vancouver free?+
Yes. Membership costs nothing and almost every event is free, which stands out in a city where prevention usually means a private invoice. There is no paid tier, no supplement stand and no pitch at the end of a talk. If a date does cost something, because a room is rented or a lab bills for a measurement, the amount appears in the listing before you register. A free account also unlocks the bilingual guides and the biological age tool on this site.
How do I join Longevity Vancouver?+
Pick a route: a free account on this site, the Vancouver WhatsApp group, or simply showing up at the next event. None of them requires approval from anyone. WhatsApp gets the dates first, along with venue changes and the odd question at eleven at night. Instagram and LinkedIn are the place to look if you want a sense of the group before spending an evening on it. Arriving alone is standard, and most people did exactly that the first time.
Where can I test my biological age in Vancouver (DEXA, VO2max, bloodwork)?+
Vancouver is well served: private clinics and imaging centres offer DEXA body composition scans, university and sports performance labs run VO2max tests, and several companies sell extended blood panels directly. Most of it sits outside MSP, so expect to pay. We run none of it and earn nothing from those who do. The free biological age tool on this site is a sensible first step, since it works from questions you answer at home. Members post what they paid and whether the results were properly explained.
Does Longevity Vancouver run seawall runs, cold water swims or North Shore hikes?+
Our core formats are meetups, expert talks and workshops, so no regular sports programme is promised. That said, a city with the seawall, the Grouse Grind and cold water at Kitsilano practically writes the suggestion for you, and new formats here usually begin with a member proposing one. Put a date for a walk, a run or a swim into the WhatsApp group and see who answers. Anything involving cold water stays a personal decision, and nobody will talk you into it.
Does Longevity Vancouver cover Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver and Surrey?+
Yes. The chapter works across Metro Vancouver rather than the City of Vancouver alone, so Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver and Surrey are all inside the area. Venues tend to sit near a SkyTrain station or a SeaBus connection, because crossing the region by car on a weekday evening is a poor use of a life. The exact address is always in the event listing. If a cluster of members forms east of the river, an event will follow them out there.
Which language are Longevity Vancouver events held in?+
Events run in English, which is what everyone in the room has in common in a city this mixed. Academic polish is not expected, and speakers here are used to questions from people who learned English as a third language. This page also exists in German, because a fair number of members are German speakers who came for work, study or a permanent move. Guides and tools on the site are bilingual, so you can read the material in whichever language you think in.
