What is Longevity Barcelona?

Longevity Barcelona is a free community for people who want more healthy years, working from evidence rather than from whatever the wellness market is selling this season. Half the job is already done here by habit. People walk everywhere, lunch is a proper meal eaten sitting down, and a run along the Barceloneta seafront or a climb up the Carretera de les Aigües on Collserola is available in every month of the year. The other half is where the arguments start, which is roughly what we meet about.

The calendar is made of free meetups, expert talks with researchers and clinicians, hands on workshops and the occasional outdoor session when staying inside would be absurd. Regular topics: biological age and what those tests actually measure, sleep in a city that sits down to dinner at ten, nutrition past the postcard version of the Mediterranean diet, strength training, VO2max (how much oxygen your body can use under load) and how to read a blood panel calmly. Biohacking comes up at most events, generally with somebody in the room asking which trial that came from.

We are a community, not a clínica de longevidad, not a private health club and not a medical provider. Membership is free, nothing here is for sale, and nobody on our side tests, prescribes or treats. Barcelona carries one of the densest private health markets in southern Europe: anti ageing and longevity clinics around the Eixample and up towards Sarrià, private hospitals selling executive check ups, laboratories that will run a panel without a referral, vitamin drip bars, cold plunge and recovery studios. Members try a fair amount of it and come back with candid opinions, which beats reading a sales page. Our community Spots map gathers labs, gyms and studios as a starting point, and it carries no medical endorsement from us.

Who comes: long term residents alongside the very large international and remote working crowd, researchers from the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica next to the beach, clinicians, founders out of the Poblenou tech cluster, and people who mainly want their sleep sorted out. Sessions run in English, Spanish or Catalan depending on who turned up. To take part, open a free account, join the Barcelona WhatsApp group or come to the next date. There is nothing to apply for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Longevity Barcelona?+
Longevity Barcelona is the free Barcelona chapter of the Longevity Cities network, for anyone in the city interested in healthspan, prevention and the research underneath both. Meetups, expert talks and workshops make up most of what we do, and the useful part is usually the conversation that carries on afterwards. The group mixes people who grew up here with the large international crowd that moved in for work or study. Nothing is charged, nothing is approved, and no prior knowledge is assumed.
Is Longevity Barcelona a longevity club or a health club?+
Club in our case means the people, not a building, a membership card or a direct debit. Barcelona has plenty of the other kind, from beach clubs with a gym attached to private wellness centres that charge by the quarter. We have no premises, no price list and no staff selling you an upgrade. Many members belong to a gym or a padel club as well, which sits alongside this perfectly comfortably. Turning up once and never again is also fine.
Is there a longevity clinic or longevity centre in Barcelona?+
Yes, quite a few, and Longevity Barcelona is not one of them. The city has private clinics offering anti ageing and longevity programmes built around biomarker panels, imaging and an estimate of biological age, mostly in the Eixample and the streets above Diagonal. We run no such programme, hold no appointments and take no share of anyone's fee. Where the community helps is afterwards: members who paid for one of these packages will tell you plainly what the report was worth to them.
Where can I find a longevity doctor or an anti ageing clinic in Barcelona?+
We do not refer anyone, since this community employs no medical staff at all. In Barcelona you generally have three options: your CAP doctor in the public system, private practices working with a preventive or anti ageing focus, and laboratories that sell panels straight to the public. Quality and price vary widely, so members compare their own experiences at meetups rather than trusting an advertisement. The Spots map collects longevity friendly practices, labs and studios that members have visited, without any medical vetting from us.
Do you offer IV drips, ice baths or recovery treatments in Barcelona?+
No, none of that happens through us. Vitamin drips, cold plunge rooms and recovery studios are a real part of the Barcelona market and several of them advertise heavily, but we sell no treatment and receive no commission. At meetups these things get discussed the same way as everything else, which means someone will ask what the evidence looks like for the specific claim being made. If you want to try one, ask in the group first. Somebody has usually already been.
What longevity events, meetups and biohacking sessions happen in Barcelona?+
Free meetups, expert talks and practical workshops make up the Barcelona calendar, with an outdoor session whenever the weather and the topic allow it. Community challenges run alongside: one shared habit, a few weeks, progress compared in the group. Themes rotate through biological age, sleep, food, training and testing, and biohacking gadgets get a hearing along with the evidence behind them. Dates appear on this page, in the events feed and in the Barcelona WhatsApp group, and attending costs nothing.
Is Longevity Barcelona free?+
Yes. Membership costs nothing and almost every event is free as well, which is deliberate in a city where prevention is usually something you buy. No premium level exists, and no one pitches a product at the end of a talk. If a date does carry a cost, because a room is rented or a lab charges for a measurement, the listing says so before you register. A free account also gives you the bilingual guides and the biological age tool on this site.
How do I join Longevity Barcelona?+
Three ways in, none of which involves being accepted by anyone: a free account here, the Barcelona WhatsApp group, or simply coming to the next event. WhatsApp is where a change of venue or a last minute question lands first, so most regulars end up there. Instagram and LinkedIn are useful if you want to see the tone of recent meetups before giving up an evening. Coming alone is the normal case, and newcomers get introduced without any ceremony.
Where can I test my biological age in Barcelona (DEXA, VO2max, bloodwork)?+
Barcelona is well supplied: laboratory chains sell extended blood panels directly, sports medicine centres do VO2max and lactate testing, and several gyms have bought DEXA scanners for body composition. We perform none of it and earn nothing from anyone who does. The free biological age tool on this site is a reasonable first step before you spend money, since it works from questions you answer at home. Members regularly post what a test cost and whether the result was explained to them properly.
Which language are Longevity Barcelona events held in, English, Spanish or Catalan?+
English carries most talks, because the room is usually as international as the city, while Spanish and Catalan take over in smaller groups and during the drinks afterwards. Speakers switch language mid conversation without anyone making a fuss about it. If you searched for longevitat in Catalan or longevidad in Spanish and landed here, you found the right group. Reading material on this site is bilingual, and nobody is going to grade your accent when you ask a question.
Does Longevity Barcelona cover the wider metropolitan area?+
Yes. The chapter treats the whole metropolitan area as home, so members come in from L'Hospitalet, Badalona, Sant Cugat and the towns along the Maresme coast, all of which sit within a short train ride. Venues stay close to the centre and to a metro or Rodalies station for exactly that reason, with the address always in the listing. People further out in Catalonia are welcome too, and some follow the group online between visits.
I just moved to Barcelona. Is this a good way to meet people?+
It works, and a lot of members arrived exactly that way. Barcelona attracts people who move for a job, a startup or a remote contract, which means half the room at a given meetup has been in the city for under two years. Conversation starts from a shared subject rather than small talk, which makes it easier if you dislike networking events. Nobody minds if your Spanish is three weeks old. Come to one event and see whether the group suits you.
